Sweden

One of the oldest customs in Sweden

is to offer the newborn a silver spoon. Most of the time you write on the spoon’s arm a clock that shows the time the baby was born.

The old rural population (we are talking 90-95% of the population) any savings could make it in silver crockery. They were proudly taking them and used them at the official dinners and parties that were held for baptisms, weddings and burials, perhaps for Christmas and Easter. So this was the old way of opening a bank account in the name of the baby.

Most runways and cultures have a ceremony to mark the birth of a baby. Baptism is a Christian ritual. You can also arrange a conferencing or naming ceremony or just create your own celebration to announce your baby’s name to the world.

In Sweden, as a legal guardian, you register your baby’s name with the Swedish Tax Service within three months of their birth.
